Heroes and Princesses

My Emma just turned 2 this week.  She received her first night gown.  As soon as I put it on her she said "I a princess mommy"  To which I replied, "Yes, you are!"  People wonder if they should encourage girls to believe they are princesses, and if we should tell our boys they can be super heroes.  Before I had kids I used to wonder that myself.  Then I watched Beth Moore teaching on the Fruit of the Spirit, and she shared a story of her throwing a big party for the release of her book A Parable about the King.  She told how all the girls dressed up as princesses, and the boys as brave knights.  All the children acted like it was completely normal to be referred to as daughter of the king or a hero.  She said "I wonder if God has placed in the heart of every child that they are special, they are princesses and heroes of the Almighty God, and as we grow up we lose sight of who we are."  I LOVE that!

I hope to always encourage my kids in their dreaming and make believe.  To tell them that they are in fact royalty, my sweet Emma is a princess of the King of Kings, daughter of the most high.  Drew is brave warrior defending the kingdom and standing up for what is right.  I never want them to lose sight of who they really are.  I want to expose the enemy when he comes lying and saying they aren't special, that they don't mean anything to God, or aren't loved by Him.  (Satan is always attacking our identity! We just need to see who we are in Christ)

Maybe our little ones have it right!  They know they are princesses and heroes, and that is who we really are, we just need to remember! "Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."  Matthew 19:14

I think the little ones do have it right. It's hard to remember that air of royalty when we mess up. I love this post. New follower here.
